Ghost Busters (1954) Trailer

I’m not sure how much of this is from The Ghost Breakers, which was a film that came out in 1940 that was about a group of guys fighting ghosts, haha. It’s a little more Scooby-Do then Ghostbusters but it’s cool.

Mr. Dude here edited together a trailer of what Ghostbusters would be like if it was shot back in the day:

San Diego GOP chairman co-founded international piracy ring

Online research reveals that Krvaric is the co-founder of Fairlight, a band of software crackers which later evolved into an international video and software piracy group that law enforcement authorities say is among the world’s largest such crime rings.

Dj Format - 3 Feet Deep

A clever but simple music video based on some popular bits of gaming culture, mainly “Rap Rap Revolution.” A game that doesn’t exist, but should. What’s interesting to me is that while I’m sure there are people out there who listen to hip hop and enjoy Bemani games, I would personally say that it’s not really the standard match-up. At the very least, not the cultural steriotype at all.

If anything, watch it for the cameo of a hamster. (??)

Slashdot | Spam Is 30 Years Old

“New Scientist commemorates spam’s 30th anniversary, a week from today. The first spam message — archived here — was sent to 393 users of ARPANET on May 2 1978 by someone from computing pioneers DEC. They had to type in all the addresses by hand first.”

Gamasutra - The Top 20 Underutilized Licenses

Since licensed gaming seems bigger than ever these days, Gamasutra’s editors felt - somewhat flippantly - that publishers might need some help picking through the pop culture landscape for un-optioned properties that have the potential to become great games (as well as a few existing game franchises in desperate need of a comeback).

Fantastic article about what licenses and IP should be reinvigorated in modern times.

Ulli’s Roy Orbison in Cling-film site

Hello, and welcome to my homepage. My name is Ulrich Haarbürste and I like to write stories about Roy Orbison being wrapped up in cling-film. If you have written any stories about Roy being completely wrapped in clingfilm please send them to me and I may put them up on the site. If you have a site with stories about other pop stars being wrapped in cling-film mail me and we can exchange links.

One of my favorite classic internets.

Lost in Translation

Lost In Translation

This was something a friend of mine made to tease me about a job I was doing at the time. I was quite literally doing nothing but setting up Flash games for translation. It was pretty mind-numbing.

Voice recording may be world’s oldest - CNN.com

The 10-second clip of a woman singing “Au Clair de la Lune,” taken from a so-called phonautogram, was recently discovered by audio historian David Giovannoni. The recording predates Thomas Edison’s “Mary Had a Little Lamb” — previously credited as the oldest recorded voice — by 17 years.

Mytopia - INN 2.0?

I wanted to pass this along to all my oldschool homies. There’s a new “gaming network” that has just been launched that allows it’s users to play ‘through’ most social networks, as well as interact with people on other social networks. For example, you can log into Mytopia on Facebook and play chess with someone on Myspace.

Sounds cool, except:

It’s so ironic to me that so many people have tried to recreate something that was so amazing almost TWENTY YEARS AGO. It was so before it’s time it’s not even funny.

At the very least, the map they used is such a complete ripoff, I’m sure they are getting lots of shit for it now. Considering that it’s quite possible the people working on this startup were 2-3 years old when INN was around. What probably happened is the artist for the map just stole that old map and redid it and it got approved by someone who had no idea.

Hidden Palace

So, what’s Hidden Palace?

We love old video games. Especially the ones that were not meant to be seen or played. We play every prototype with excitement. So why the site?

We will buy games, prototypes, whatever, dump them and release them here. Free of charge, for your enjoyment.

Basically, whoever you are - a hardcore player, a prototypes collector, or just a ROM junkie who likes his 3.1415 terabyte folder filled with ROMs, I am your new friend. So, enjoy your stay and spread the word.

ROFLCon

So a few months ago, I heard in mumbling that there was some sort of “Internet humor convention” called LOLcon or something. After some futile research I came up with nothing…

But I was just presented with the link of links this morning. Behold ROFLCon,

ROFLCON!

basically an ‘internet meme convention.’ I can’t believe it… haha. Look at the list of confirmed guests.

Lastly, this particular activity sums up how this is going to be an amazing and weird event that I can’t afford to miss…

8-? — Party of the Internet 2008 — Every internet meme, ever. In one room. Partying out. Promise: they will be cranking that soulja boy.

I am going, tickets and hotel are booked. See you there.
